The Carcross/Tagish First Nation (CTFN) is a Self-Governing First Nation, located in the town of Carcross. The original inhabitants of this area are the Tagish people who belong to the Tagish linguistic grouping of the Athapaskan language family.
Carcross/Tagish First Nation has built its governance structure based on their clan system; six Tlingit Clans are represented in the First Nation with each clan playing a vital role in the governance of the First Nation.
The Carcross/Tagish culture is alive and well and the community is committed to their culture, to the practice of the Potlatch, and preserving the songs and dances of the clans. This can all be experienced first-hand at the carving shed located in downtown Carcross.
