Population

Carcross has a population of 289 residents (2013), over two-thirds of which claim Aboriginal ancestry.

The population of the Yukon itself is growing; a population growth of 11.6% between the 2006 and 2011 census years was the highest in Canada.

Labour Force

The main employers in Carcross are with government: Federal, Territorial, and First Nation. The private sector provides employment in in the tourism, construction, and service industry fields.

From forestry to mining, Yukoners have worked in natural resource industries for over 100 years, and in developing expertise for working in remote, cold-climate conditions.

More recently, with new technologies and media-based innovations, along with territory-wide broadband connectivity, Yukoners have become skilled knowledge-based workers.
