Quality of Life

The community of Tagish is situated around Tagish River (locally known as Six Mile River) the waterway linking Marsh and Tagish Lakes. During the Klondike Gold Rush, the Northwest Mounted Police established an important outpost on the Six Mile to register gold seekers and conduct safety inspections.

The Tagish Community Association has built for the enjoyment of the residents a local recreational complex in the heart of the district located on Highway 8, also known as the Carcross Tagish Road.

Traditional Seminars, scheduled Pancake Breakfasts, Wellness Clinics, Coffee and Chat, Cards, Pre-school playgroup, Women’s Winter Stay Fit Program, workshops, holiday parties and dances are some of the activities that take place in the community centre.

The area surrounding Tagish is noted for its outstanding natural beauty. The rivers, lakes and mountains provide incredible opportunities for many outdoors enthusiasts: hikers, skiers, recreational boaters, fishers, hunters, and more.

At the same time, the close proximity of the Yukon's capital, Whitehorse, means that the benefits of a city are just a short drive away. Similarly, the coastal community of Skagway, Alaska, is a 2.5 hour drive south-west of Tagish across the spectacular White Pass.
